There are
many article found on Lync 2013 and they are explained the deployment process
however did found the article where all Lync 2013 deployment combination available.
That’s why I thought I will write article where you see the deployment option.
Broadly the
Option available for Lync 2013 deployment.
1. Lync On-Premises deployment.
2. Lync Hybrid Deployment.
3. Cloud (Office 365) Deployment.
These deployment
option available as per requirement and you can combine these deployment
options.
Lync Server 2013 On-premise
Deployment:-
Lync 2013
On-premise deployment is my go to option because it will provide complete Lync
feature set and provides ultimate
flexibility in configuring, customizing, and operating your deployment. All
servers are installed onsite and maintained by your organization. An
on-premises deployment provides the full range of Lync Server features.
a. Full Enterprise Voice Capabilities -On-premises supports direct connectivity with PBX systems
and trunks, and advanced phone features such as response groups and Call Park.
Lync Online does not currently support these features.
b. Media Quality Controls - If you want the full range of media quality assurance
features, such as Call Admission Control (CAC) and Quality of Service (QoS)
features, you will want an on-premises deployment.
c. Persistent Chat
- If you need to deploy Persistent chat for your organization, you must choose
an on-premises deployment.
d. 3rd-Party Server Applications. [Only on-premises
deployments can work with trusted 3rd-party applications that use the Microsoft
Unified Communications Managed API (UCMA)].
e. Multi-National/Multi-Regional Companies Needing Regional Support.
If you have datacenters in multiple countries or regions and need
servers to be deployed and managed on a regional basis, an on-premises
deployment is best, as it provides this type of regional management
capabilities.
f. Complete control over policies, reports, and upgrades etc.
Lync Hybrid
Deployment:-
This type of deployment will support of mixed Lync environment
means some user homed On-premises and some are homed on Lync online but share
the same domain (mydomain.com). You can configure your on-premises deployment for
hybrid with Lync Online and use Active Directory Synchronization to keep your
on-premises and online users synchronized. You can also configure hybrid
deployments for integration with other Microsoft Office 365 applications, including
Exchange Online and SharePoint Online.
Need to keep in mind following
points:
a. User contacts -
The limit for contacts for Lync Online users is 250. Any contacts beyond that
number will be removed from the user’s contact list.
b. Instant Messaging and Presence - User contact lists, groups, and access control lists
(ACLs) are migrated with the user account.
c. Conferencing data, meeting content, and scheduled meetings - This content is not migrated with
the user account. Users must reschedule meetings after their accounts are
migrated to Lync Online.
You have purchase Lync Online as a standalone
service from Microsoft Office 365 or as part of an Office 365 for enterprises suite
that includes Lync Online, Microsoft Exchange Online, Microsoft SharePoint
Online, Microsoft Office Professional Plus, and Microsoft Office Web Apps.
Organizations that subscribe to Lync Online retain control over the collaboration services they offer to users, but they do not have the operational burden of on-premises server software. With the Lync Online multi-tenant hosted plans, Lync is hosted on multi-tenant servers that support multiple customers simultaneously.
